Easy Tape is an "Adding Machine" with a correctible "tape" of up to 999 items. All it does is Add and Subtract, but Boy oh Boy, does it ever Add and Subtract! (It Multiplies and Divides like a calculator too but adding is its real forte And some forte it is too, baby.).
And Easy Tape is FREE FREE FREE. ("Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!".) ("It's Free, Jerry, Free. FREE! He's giving it away. I've go to get some more bowls to put it in." )
Super easy to use with lots of features (Multiply, Divide, Percentage, Total, Individual Subtotals, Item Comments, Average, Median, Save, Load, Email, Print, "AutoAdd", .... and more).
There is no "learning curve". Just type numbers, press ENTER and that's it. (It can do lots lots more but if that's all you need ...)

Nah, what happens is your virus detector sees the ".exe" on the end and flags it as suspicious. In earlier eons, ".exe" files were the most common way of passing viruses and other malicious programs along.
Some protection schemes will append another suffix to it as a caution so it can't be run automatically without some user intervention. ie "Easy Tape.exe" will be saved to disk as "Easy Tape.exe.TXT". Then the user has to remove the ".TXT" manually (or whatever has been appended) to run it.
Some protection software will alert you when it does this and ask permission first. Others just alert you. Others just do it.
Easy Tape.exe is harmless, I promise you. Personally addictive; a vital necessary tool to compete in the modern world; a significant advantage for early adopters to outcompete their more sophisticated competitors; maybe, but not harmful to your computer or its contents in any way.
On my "to do" list is putting Easy Tape in an installation program that deals with said virus protection.

Who Really Needs Easy Tape?
Well, nobody really. After all we've pretty much all of us have had computers for over 10 years and gotten by pretty good without Easy Tape. The world won't stop if you don't get Easy Tape. But let's take a look at just how useful Easy Tape can be:
- Obviously for Accountants and other professionals who regularly deal with columns of numbers.
- Those who fire up and program a sophisticated spreadsheet to do a simple task.
For the rest of us.
- Updating/balancing the checkbook at the end of a hectic week. Really easy. Just enter last balance, minus each check/charge, plus each deposit. and there's the balance (hopefully it's still green).

- Itemizing credit card bills. (We all know what a pain that is to see a long list of charges and try to figure out which goes where and who charged what and for what purpose.) With Easy Tape, just enter the charges, make a note (or not) beside each, and check a box (or not) alongside the item and get a separate subtotal of checked items. (For example you could have a Tax deductible column, a House column and an Office column to separate out those charges. Or His and Hers columns. Or ... Up to 5 separate subtotals). Print the tape each month to reference for tax purposes/deductions at the end of the year.

- Suppose you had a list of items bought/sold at a yard sale (say), enter each one (and description if you like) and Easy List will automatically add/deduct a fixed percentage (or amount) for commission or sales tax or .... for each.

- Suppose you had several numbers to add up. If you did it on a calculator, how would you know you didn't have a mis-entry or hit a wrong key? Everybody does. (Some of us more often than others.)
Unless the calculator has a printed tape (and how many of us have one of those?), you couldn't know. So you do it again just to be sure. And you get a different number. which one was right? So do it again ...
Easy tape shows all the individual numbers entered so you can check against your list for mis-entries and correct any. (Try doing that on your calculator.) And it can do a lot lot more than that but that alone is invaluable.

- If you only ever had a need for Easy Tape just once, (like the fella who had an overwhelming number of medical insurance claims to sort out last year) it's worthwhile having on your desktop. It takes a truly insignificant amount of room. Less than .001 of a percent of today's typical hard drives. ( Just press S under Miscellaneous to put the Easy Tape Icon on your desktop and it'll be right there that one time you need it. Pretty soon you'll be using it a lot more often than you think you will because it's just so conveniently Easy.)

Easy Tape is loaded with features but not burdened down with them. Literally use it "right out of the box". And any time you want more (and there is a lot more), it's right there in front of you. No complicated or obscure "Help" files to navigate either.
